There are many valuable resources available to diabetics. These associations can help keep you informed on how to manage your diabetes and on how to live with diabetes.
The American Diabetics Association provides access to books and magazines, as well as much information on diabetes. They deal with legal issues, dietary issues, and many other aspects of diabetes. This site offers comprehensive explanations of diabetes symptoms, prevention, and risk factors. The American Diabetes Association diet information site is also particularly helpful, with many recipes.
The Canadian Diabetes Association website includes information for those newly diagnosed with both type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes, as well as information for those who have already diabetes for years. This site is particularly helpful because of its complete coverage of gestational diabetes. This site offers extensive explanations of diabetes testing and what your results mean.
The National Diabetes Education Program raises awareness about pre-diabetes and diabetes. They are actively working in conjunction with over 200 other organizations to improve the way diabetes is treated.
The NIDDK (National Institute for Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Disease) website offers some medically technical explanations of diabetes. This site also explains research, funding, and governmental lobbying that is currently taking place.
The Centre for Disease Control includes a section on diabetes with particular emphasis on diabetes and obesity, and diabetes and women’s health. This site also provides findings from the surgeon general, as well as updates for helping those in disaster areas cope with diabetes. This website is also available in Spanish.
